Original series
Misty is one of key characters in the original Pokémon anime series.
Misty made her debut in “Pokémon, I Choose You!” while fishing on Route 1. Instead of a Pokémon, she reels in Ash and his injured Pikachu, saving them from a flock of Spearow. After lending Ash her bike to get to the Pokémon Center, which he damages, Misty demands he replace it (”Pokémon Emergency!”). She follows Ash until he repays her, joining him on his journey to Pewter City. As a result, Misty journeyed across the Kanto region, the Orange Archipelago, and the Johto region alongside Ash. During their travels, she frequently served as Ash’s mentor in Pokémon battles.
Ash and Misty were later accompanied by Brock, from Showdown in Pewter City to Poké Ball Peril, and again from the end of ”The Rivalry Revival” to the conclusion of the original series. Additionally, Tracey joined them from ”The Lost Lapras to The Rivalry Revival”.
In ”The Water Flowers of Cerulean City”, Misty challenged Ash to a Gym battle to prove herself as skilled as her sisters. Despite interruptions by Team Rocket, Pikachu’s heroics earned Ash the Cascade Badge, much to Misty’s dismay.
In ”Tentacool & Tentacruel”, Misty persuaded the Pokémon (Tentacool and Tentacruel) to cease their assault on the port, promising humans would vacate their reef homes. She also caught a Horsea during the incident. In ”Who Gets to Keep Togepi?”, Misty becomes the first main character to care for a baby Pokémon when Ash’s found egg hatches into a Togepi. Despite Ash winning a tournament for custody, Togepi imprints on Misty as its mother, and she carries it throughout the series. In ”Misty Meets Her Match”, Misty faced a decision when Gym Leader Rudy offered her to stay in the Orange Islands. Despite the tempting offer, she chose to continue traveling with Ash and supported him in his battle against Rudy.
In ”Hook, Line, and Stinker”, Misty triumphed in the Seaking Catching Competition. Later, she joined Ash in the Whirl Cup, reaching the top eight after defeating him in the second round. Despite her efforts, she narrowly lost to Trinity in a close match.
In ”Gotta Catch Ya Later!”, Misty revisited the Viridian City Pokémon Center. Her sisters informed her of their world tour, leaving Misty in charge of the Cerulean Gym. Though her sisters later returned, Misty continued as the Gym Leader, with Daisy often aiding her. Tracey occasionally assists Misty during his visits or while running errands for Professor Oak.
