Janine is the skilled Gym Leader of Fuchsia City, succeeding her father, Koga who has been promoted to the Elite Four in Generation II. She specializes in Poison-type Pokémon and she awards the Soul Badge to Trainers who prove their worth by defeating her in battle.

Janine made her debut in Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal after her father, Koga, ascended to the Elite Four. Assuming the role of Fuchsia Gym Leader, she inherits the title of “The Poisonous Ninja Master” and employs Poison-type Pokémon in battles. Her leadership continues in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver.
Upon defeat, in addition to awarding the Soul Badge, Janine bestows TM06 (Toxic) in Generation II and TM84 (Poison Jab) in Generation IV.
Before assuming her role as Gym Leader, Janine could be spotted outside the Fuchsia Zoo. In Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, she can be encountered there after the player achieves victory in the Pokémon League.
In Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, Janine joins other Kanto Gym Leaders in the Kanto Leaders Tournament at the Pokémon World Tournament. She also competes with leaders from various regions in the World Leaders Tournament, and fellow Poison-type specialists in the Poison Type Expert Tournament.

Janine made her debut in “Crossing Crobat”. Initially, she was observed on a mission, testing the security of the Goldenrod Museum by simulating the theft of a Big Pearl.
After a mission testing museum security, Janine pondered her path. Her father, Koga, vanished post-Team Rocket’s fall, leaving her alone. When Suicune attacked, Janine battled, hoping to draw Koga back. Though defeated, she gained insight into Suicune’s quest for a worthy Trainer. In an exhibition tournament, she faced Falkner but forfeited to find her father. Later, she joined Gym Leaders against the Masked Man, boarding a Magnet Train, which Red eventually stopped.
In this manga Janine’s Pokémon team consist of Ariados, Weezing, Forretress, Crobat and Grimer.
Pocket Monsters HGSS Jō’s Big Adventure
In the fifth chapter of this manga, JBA5, Janine was depicted as a silhouette alongside her Ariados and the other Kanto Gym Leaders.
