Anime appearences
In the Pokémon anime, Erika is the Gym Leader of Celadon City. She first appears in the episode “Pokemon Scent-Sation!”, where Ash challenges her to a Gym battle. She specializes in Grass-type Pokemon. Despite her calm demeanor, she is a skilled battler and proves to be a formidable opponent for Ash.
In Celadon City, Erika also manages a perfumery renowned for its aromatic products derived from her garden plants and Pokémon. Among its offerings is a unique perfume crafted from the essence of her beloved Pokémon, Gloom.
Erika’s fondness for Grass-type Pokémon traces back to her early encounter with her loyal Gloom. During a childhood stroll in Celadon City, she faced danger from a wild Grimer, only to be saved by her devoted Gloom (Pre series).

She made cameo appearances in flashbacks featured in the Japanese versions of “Pikachu’s Goodbye” and “Gotta Catch Ya Later!”.

Pokémon Journeys: The Series
Erika is compassionate, teaching both Trainer skills and perfume making. In battles, she’s confident and composed, relying on empathy to bring out her Pokémon’s best.
In “Destination: Coronation!”, Erika’s silhouette joins other Kanto Gym Leaders. She later reunites with Ash in “Suffering the Flings and Arrows!”. In “Heroes Unite!”, Erika and Leafeon appear in a fantasy alongside other trainers Chloe and her Eevee met.
I Choose You!
In this standalone timeline, Erika serves as the third Gym Leader Ash challenges in Kanto. After Ash’s victory, he secures the Rainbow Badge from her.
Pokémon Origins
In these mini-series, Erika was initially spotted alongside a Beauty and a female Cooltrainer. And later she was shown being challenged to a Gym battle by Red, who later defeated her off-screen, earning the young Pokémon Trainer the Rainbow Badge.

How I Became a Pokémon Card
In this manga Erika features in “Erika and Kaede… and Dark Gloom.” She shares a childhood connection with Kaede, a Team Rocket member with flower allergies.
Pokémon Adventures
In this manga Erika is depicted as an elegant princess who lectures at universities and excels in archery. Aligned with the “good” Gym Leaders of Kanto, she frequently aids Misty and Brock in times of crisis.
Red, Green & Blue arc – In her debut in “Blame It on Eevee”, Erika tasks Red with capturing a unique Eevee that can freely switch between its three evolved forms, the result of a Team Rocket experiment.
Yellow arc – Erika takes up a teaching position at Celadon University, replacing a problematic professor. In “Whacked by Marowak!,” she seeks out Yellow after learning about her from Misty.
Gold, Silver & Crystal arc – As the supervisor of the Kanto Gym Leaders, Erika faced off against Pryce, the Johto Gym Leaders’ Leader, in the exhibition tournament at the Indigo Plateau. Despite her efforts, she lost the match. Later, Erika joined the other Gym Leaders in battling masked Team Rocket Grunts on the Magnet Train.
In this manga Erika’s Pokémon team consist of Angela, Vileplume, Bellsprout which evolves into Weepinbell, and then into Victreebel, Gloom which evolves into Bellossom and Skiploom.
Pokémon Pocket Monsters
Erika plays a significant role in “A Tough Battle With The Powerful Venusaur!!” aiding Red with her Venusaur to thwart Team Rocket. She also showcases her Oddish, which evolves into a Gloom and then Vileplume, in a stage performance. In the manga, her father holds the position of Silph Co.’s president.
Pokémon Zensho
In the fourth chapter of this manga, PZ05, Satoshi challenges Erika to a battle in Celadon City. Amidst the battle, Charmeleon inadvertently burns Erika’s kimono, leading to tension. Despite the mishap, Erika acknowledges Satoshi’s skillful training and awards him the Rainbow Badge.
Pocket Monsters HGSS Jō’s Big Adventure
In the fifth chapter of this manga, JBA5, Erika was depicted as a silhouette alongside the other Kanto Gym Leaders.
