In “To Master the Onixpected!”, Ash discovers that Bruno is training at Mt. Hideaway near Pallet Town while preparing for the Indigo Plateau Conference. Brock, intrigued by Bruno’s rumored secret technique for success, joins Ash and Misty in meeting him. Along their journey, they encounter a colossal Onix residing in Mt. Hideaway.

 

After Bruno rescues the group from the giant Onix, Ash and Brock implore him to mentor them. Bruno agrees on the condition that they obey his every command, assigning them various tasks. As Misty grows suspicious of Bruno’s authenticity, Brock, unwilling to accept Bruno’s lack of special abilities, attempts to test him with a surprise attack. However, Bruno fails to react swiftly, leading Brock to realize Bruno’s true nature. Despite this, Bruno showcases his athleticism by saving Ash from the Onix and resolving its aggression caused by a stuck Sandslash. He emphasizes that genuine Pokémon training stems from the bond between Trainers and their Pokémon.

Red, Green & Blue arc – Bruno made a brief appearance in “A Charizard…and a Champion,” standing alongside his fellow Elite Four members as they observed the finals, Red and Blue’s battle at Indigo Plateau.

 

Yellow arcTwo years later, Bruno made his formal introduction in the chapter, having sent a challenge letter to Red inviting him to battle at Mt. Moon.

 

Gold, Silver & Crystal arc – Bruno’s encounter with Koga occurred as they departed Cerise Island, leading them to decide to train together.

 

HeartGold & SoulSilver arc – Bruno, alongside the other three Elite Four members, encountered Gold at the Pokéathlon Dome and engaged in a series of Pokéathlon events against him.

In the ninth and final chapter of the Pokémon Zensho manga, PZ10, Bruno, the second Elite Four member, confronts Satoshi with his Hitmonlee but suffers defeat, enabling Satoshi to advance to the next room to challenge Agatha.
