??? type

??? type Pokémon icon

In the Pokémon world, ???-type is not one of the eighteen elemental Pokémon types that Pokémon and their moves can have.

The ??? type is a unique and enigmatic type that existed exclusively in Generations II, III, and IV of the Pokémon games.

However, it was notably removed in the Generation V games and hasn’t made a return since.

??? type characteristics

In Generation III, Pokémon Eggs are depicted as ???-type on their status screen, reflecting the mystery surrounding the identity of the Pokémon within. This feature was absent in Generation II, which utilized a distinct status screen for Eggs.

However, it was discontinued in Generation IV when the section displaying a Pokémon’s type was segregated. Since Generation IV, Eggs are treated as Normal-type Pokémon in the games.

It exhibits neutral interactions with all other types, both in terms of offense and defense.

??? type moves

The move Curse initially had the ??? type upon its introduction in Generation II, possibly due to its enigmatic characteristics. It remains the sole move to exhibit varying effects based on the Pokémon’s type. In Generation V, its type was altered to Ghost type.

Conversion cannot transform a Pokémon into ??? type. If Curse is the only move known, Conversion will fail to apply any changes.

??? type Pokémon

Currently, there are no official Pokémon with this type, but many Glitch Pokémon are associated with it.

The ??? type is absent in core series games from Generation V onward. In Generation IV, Eggs were modified to display no type, and the move Curse, previously of ??? type, was converted to Ghost type.
